Greetings everyone,

Today is a milestone in our little organization, The Society for Music and Science. I have received the first of two installments from the grant that was provided in order to pursue the objectives laid out in the finalized version of the prospectus.

Thank you Dr. Anand for making this possible, and Dr. Pecht and Dr.Stuart for your support. Now it's time for me to get to some serious work. I will be posting weekly updates,

Thank you all again,

W. Gerard Poole

Rolling Thunder Photo Book I just put together

I thought this would be of interest because part of the proposed project would involve developing an approach to music therapy for veterans.

Formulating the Project

Hello everyone,

As you know I am currently writing a brief project proposal based on an inspiring conversation I had with Davinder the weekend before last.

I am almost ready to present it, I just need to look at a few more programs that might have an influence on the one that I will be proposing.

So far the preliminary survey and the ideas that we have come up with look really very promising academically, and even more so on a social benefit level.

I will keep everyone posted as soon as Davinder and I make a final decision on the direction we want to pursue.

Great Beginnings!

Hello everyone,

This is an exciting time for me and I hope for everyone involved. With the seed money proposed by the Center of Energetic Concepts Development, thanks to Davinder and Michael, we can proceed with our first project. I will be proposing what I think are the three best bets as far as importance to science is concerned, and also taking "bang for your buck" considerations into account.

I will post them as soon as they are ready and I look forward to hearing everyone's feedback.

This is really great, thanks again Davinder and Michael!

Progress

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the delay but I've been thinking about the right direction. Bill and I are going over the approach for the potential experimental aspects of a project involving music and neurobiology. We will have something soon. If you want to look at a prospective partner, someone very immersed in the field of music and neuroscience, Petr Janata is  someone to look up. He has done some very interesting work.

I will keep you all posted as I progress in this area. I am also continuing to develop the "Music for Anthropologists" series concept, as we as the edited volume of Musical Cosmologies from around the world idea.

ps Bill is heading for Saudi Arabia next week! sounds really exciting, and I wish him the best of luck on this enterprise.

First Blog Post

Greetings everyone!

Sorry for my late start on this, but here is the first step.
I hope I haven't made any egregious mistakes with the list of suspects, and that the overall design is at least inoffensive. I'll be glad to accept any suggestions whatsoever as to the design of the Blog.
I placed the initial Power Point on its own page so that as objectives clarified I would note them as we go along.
I thought it would be a good idea to add a page wherein anyone could add a website that they thought was relevant to the project; related work being done, data sources for related work, forums, etc.
At this point the site is open by invitation only and the four of us are the only ones on the list so far.
Let me know if you want me to add anyone else.
I'll start adding content immediately, but I want to make sure everyone is receiving the posts and has easy access to the Blog first, so let me know if you received this notice and whether or not you have any trouble accessing it.
Also, please send any suggestions.
